Railway ticket office departure makes way for family home

21 January 2020 - News

A former railway station ticket office has been converted to create a beautiful home after lying derelict for years following the closure of the railway line.

Angle view of former railway ticket office, restored and converted into a residential home using Soft Red handmade bricks.

The renovated and extended property was the ticket hall of Mayfield Station on the Cuckoo Steam Railway Line from 1880 until the service was shut down 85 years later.

Soft Red handmade bricks were selected to match the Victorian brickwork in size and colour for the substantial extension. The sensitive design updates the original building with a modern twist and many of the period features were restored in a respectful nod to its heritage.
