Project Scope: Modern property in conservation area

Project Industry: New Build, Residential

A modern three bedroom house has replaced a derelict medical surgery, situated between two listed buildings in a conservation area.

As the original building was single storey, planning conditions stipulated that the new build had to visually be the same from street level. This has been achieved with an innovative design, creating the illusion of a one-storey structure which features a dramatic glazed elevation over two storeys including a basement.

Reclamation Yellow Stock bricks were the natural choice for the boundary walls which had to be repaired and extended, with part of the dwelling set into it. The bricks blend in perfectly with the salvaged brickwork from site to provide a seamless finish.

The project has been nominated for several awards:

  • RICS London 2016 Awards
  • Homebuilding & Renovating Readers’ Choice 2015 Awards
  • Homebuilding & Renovating Best Contemporary Home 2015 Awards
